Grateful, Happy, Healthy

It’s not a new concept….we’ve talked about it often… especially at this time of year.  Giving thanks, and the role of gratitude has often been cited to have a strong association with health and happiness, and when we stop for a moment and look around, it’s easy to see just how many things we have to be grateful for in the BaseCamp 31 community.  And so, we thought it was time that we branched out some…and leverage some of the resources we’re thankful for to help others who may not be blessed with as much….I hope you’ll help!
Beginning this month, BaseCamp 31 will be partnering for the holiday season with the Harvest Family Success Center to support local families in Hunterdon County with a giving tree.
The giving tree will be set up on the 19th of November in the front lobby area of our facility. Please consider selecting a tag from the tree and shop for these families in need. Each tag will have an item which we encourage you to bring back unwrapped and place under tree (you are not limited to one item), by December 7th!
SAVE THE DATE: 12/7/17
On Thursday, December 7th we will be hosting our annual Holiday Party (bring something to share) and capping a great 2017 and the many achievements therein.  At the party we also will be joined by guests from the Harvest Family Success Center who will provide a brief presentation about their organization and the ways that they help local families in need strengthen their connections within their community.
May you and yours have a wonderfully grateful Thanksgiving and beginning of the Holiday Season.

BaseCamp Athletic Club News
Congrats to Mar Busher and Mark Cawley for completing the 2017 NYC Marathon!
And to BC-AC Ruggers for a great showing in South Jersey!

Rugby Marathon

Since inception, the BaseCamp Athletic Club (BC-AC) has committed to serving the health, fitness, and social needs

of the community by committing to the development of athletic endeavors, events and groups.  In it’s tenure, the group has established an engaged group of primarily adult endurance sport (run, bike, tri) enthusiasts who socialize around active pursuits, train and compete together.  However, a gap in community offerings, specifically for our youth, still remains.  Unfortunately in many cases, children are pushed to “choose” early, specialize in a given sport in hopes of gaining competitive advantage.  Equally unfortunate, as cited by the American Academy of Pediatrics, early specialization often leads to overuse, over-training, and burnout.   However, that does not change the global need for adequate physical activity, and why it so desperately matters!

In 2017, BC-AC is taking the next step in it’s launch of Youth Rugby and WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Why?  Because Rugby is a FUN, game that develops critical, and universal athletic skills (running, cutting, catching, kicking, throwing), in a socially-supportive environment accessible to the entire family.  It’s a game that bucks the overuse (by requiring diversity of human movement) and specialization (given it’s relatively new emergence) trends.

Rugby Combine — Saturday, February 25th @12pm

In conjunction with our commitments to fostering a healthy environment for our local community and helping our youth “move well”, the BaseCamp Athletic Club will be extending its participation in rugby into 2017. Our kickoff event, a winter combine, will be held on February 25th at 12pm at the BaseCamp31 facility (1250 Route 31N, Lebanon NJ). Unlike the NFL Draft combine, our event will be focused on fun while still serving as a benchmark for the athlete’s growth.  While our youth athletes are participating in the combine, we will be simultaneously be hosting an information session for parents and adults that want to participate in our weekly pick-up games of (touch) rugby. Some of the topics to be discussed will be the benefits of rugby and our goals for the 2017 season while also providing an open forum to ask any questions. We are VERY excited about rugby and, more specifically, our combine as the 2017 kickoff event and can’t wait to see you at BaseCamp31 on the 25th. This event is FREE and open to all so please bring friends; the more the merrier!
