This past Monday was a special day for us, as it has been for the last decade or so, with a handful (actually two handfuls this year) of our members competing in the Boston Marathon. Each year, the marathon is held on “Patriot’s Day”, which commemorates the first battles of the American Revolutionary War. And as it often does, this year’s event got me thinking… not just because a small part of me was missing being there… but more so because of the heroic efforts that took place (congrats to members and race finishers Kristen Prendergast, Kevin Horton, Alysia Puma, Steve Mruskovic, Jim Hardin, Frank Batiste, Eric Puma and Tom Churylo).
I am incredibly proud of our members who pounded the pavement in Boston this past Monday… leaders in their own right who were willing to take action for something they believe in. Equally, I am proud of the many upcoming community events that our membership is supporting, most especially those that promote the health of our fellow citizens and the land we call home.
Sounds like patriotism to me!
From the Chair
Join us for a little PLOG? As the weather warms and we continue to get out in the community, we’re excited to kick off spring by inviting all to join us on Saturday 4/20 at 8a for a little “PLOG”.
What’s that? I had to ask too… simple really, Pick-up Litter while jOGging. We’ll have a spare trash bag or two and a pair of gloves for you.
Also – remember, we have reserved a slot for 9a-12p on July 27 at Grow-A-Row in Pittstown to harvest fresh vegetables that will be used to FUEL the less fortunate and needy in Hunterdon County. RSVP HERE
Hope to see you out there!
